Your own road

Ride any GPX file on your smart trainer

Got a route in Komoot or Strava? Export it as a GPX file, drop it into longvoie, and ride it in 3D on your trainer with the real gradients.

How to do it

  1. In Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or Garmin Connect, open the route and export it as GPX.
  2. Open longvoie in Chrome or Edge on a laptop or desktop and drag the file onto the page, or use Make your own road.
  3. longvoie turns it into a road in 3D and tells you its length, its climbing and how many rides it will take you.
  4. Ride. Your trainer follows the gradients in the file, and if you stop halfway, the rest is waiting for next time.

About the file

The gradients come from the heights stored in the file. GPX files exported from Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS and Garmin Connect include them. A file without heights will ride completely flat.

Tracks and routes both work, and any waypoints in the file show up as places along the road. Length doesn't matter: a 10 km loop is one ride, and a 900 km trip is just more of them.

Why people do this

Usually it's to preview something: a sportive, a climb on next summer's holiday, the course of a race. Riding it indoors first tells you where it gets steep and how long each part lasts. Other people ride their usual weekend loop on weekday evenings when it's dark out.

Our roads are GPX files too

Every road in longvoie can be downloaded as a GPX, for your bike computer or another app. See the roads.
