About the road
This is the part of the Danube Cycle Path most people mean when they talk about it. From Passau the river cuts through wooded hills to the Schlögen loop, where it doubles back on itself, then opens out past Aschach to Linz. After Mauthausen and Grein the road crosses to the north bank opposite Melk, whose abbey looks down on the river, and runs through the Wachau: vineyards and apricot orchards from there through Dürnstein to Krems. The last stretch runs through Tulln into Vienna.
It is gentle the whole way and follows the river downstream, which is why so many people ride it as their first long bike trip.
Also known as Donauradweg Passau–Wien, Danube Cycle Path, EuroVelo 6.
